Button-Stick-WW1-button-polishing-guard-Patent-No-116972/17 (Thank you internet search ) Can you see a service number?
No, there is no service number. Very strange how this came to be buried in a garden in Downe. No sign of medals or anything to associate it with an individual. Button sticks were part of the standard issue to all service personnel.
Might have been ‘lost’ in the garden. Has anyone checked who lived there in 1911?
The house was built in 1936 and prior to that date it was pasture. It could be that the person who lived in the house in the thirties served in the first World War. A connection has not been made sofar but checks are ongoing.
