The Christmas lights were switched on in Downe by ‘Elvis’ and the Downe May Queen on Sunday 3rd December. The switching-on followed the May Queen’s Carol Service in St Mary’s Church, Downe.
The evening, organised by Downe Village Club, was very enjoyable and attended by many villagers, their families and friends with mince pies and mulled cider on offer in the Village Hall from Downe Village Orchard.
Father Christmas played his part and appeared at an upstairs window of the Queen’s Head and then gave sweets to the children.
