Stolen Vehicles

Overnight a Landrover Defender was stolen from Downe Activity Centre in Bird House Lane. A large trailer that was parked in the grounds was also stolen. The trailer had a large hitch-lock and it would appear that the trailer was ‘tied’ to the Landrover and they parted company in Luxted Road opposite Captains Croft. The loose trailer buried itself in the bank among the bushes and shrubs.

Police have been informed; there is no sign of the Landrover!

New tree planted in the Village Pond, Luxted Road

It’s good to see the tree to replace the willow that was partially blown down in May last year has now been replaced. The willow was so badly damaged that it had to be cut down and a promise made by the Council was that it would be replaced during the winter. The tree was planted today in appalling conditions of sleet and snow.

Downe has lost a number of trees already this year including the one opposite Down House and another on the Cricket Ground.

Christmas comes to Downe

The Christmas lights were switched on in Downe by ‘Elvis’ and theĀ  Downe May Queen on Sunday 3rd December. The switching-on followed the May Queen’s Carol Service in St Mary’s Church, Downe.

The evening, organised by Downe Village Club, was very enjoyable and attended by many villagers, their families and friends with mince pies and mulled cider on offer in the Village Hall from Downe Village Orchard.

Father Christmas played his part and appeared at an upstairs window of the Queen’s Head and then gave sweets to the children.

Filming in the Village

The Village has been extremely busy today with most parking spaces occupied by a film company that is filming scenes for a new BBC series called ‘Informer’. The series is due to be shown next year. The location of the filming is in one of the large houses in the village, mostly in the garden. A large marquee has been erected for one of the scenes.

The vans contain a considerable amount of electrical equipment and generators. Cameras, lights and scaffolding have also been delivered to the site.

The film company is also using a local school for costume changes and make-up.

A number of residents from the village will be taking part as extras.
